Offshore Wind: energy from the sea as a new horizon

Offshore wind power with and for the territories

Building offshore wind farms with BayWa r.e.

For more than 30 years, we have successfully deployed large-scale renewable energy projects around the world to the highest quality standards. Since 2019, our business portfolio has expanded, now including offshore wind power.

Our goal: to build offshore wind farms, to accelerate the development of large-scale renewable energies. In France, our consortium is prequalified for the two calls for tenders: AO5 in southern Brittany and AO6 in the Mediterranean.

Our 2 offshore floating wind turbine projects in France

In France, to respond to the two calls for tenders AO5 and AO6 launched by the State, BayWa r.e. has joined forces with Elicio, a developer with successful experience in offshore wind power. Dialogue and transparency are prerequisites for the development of these two projects. In this sense, the consortium has already taken steps to promote local opportunities and spinoffs, as well as contribute to the emergence of an industrial sector in the territories.

Pennavel, AO5 off southern Brittany

Labeled “Breizh Content” by the Bretagne Pole Naval cluster, the Pennavel project, the first commercial-scale floating wind farm in Europe, ensures that it generates employment and local benefits.

How does floating wind energy work?

BayWa r.e. supports maritime employment for women

With only 21% of women in the maritime sector (ISEMAR study, 2018), BayWa r.e. is positioned as a major player promoting diversity and equity through the development of offshore wind power.

Official sponsor of Skipper Sanni Beucke, BayWa r.e. has also joined forces with the Elles Bougent and La Touline associations to promote maritime trades among women and above all to create the maximum number of opportunities open to everyone around its offshore projects.

Wind power at sea: a wide horizon

in France Offshore wind is set to become one of the main renewable technologies of the next decade. With more than 3,500 km of coastline, France has the second largest offshore wind potential in Europe and will be one of our main markets to explore possibilities for future developments. With an ambitious new objective of 40 GW of offshore wind power installed by 2050, the industrial sector as well as local players are preparing accordingly.

Investor interest in offshore wind farms

With an established market experiencing rapid growth, offshore wind energy offers interesting opportunities for experienced investors, developers and coal-fired plant operators.

Offshore wind is already a strong contributor to energy production in Europe. 2019 was the most successful year for offshore wind energy, a trend that is going to continue: by 2040, offshore wind farms will be the leading source of electricity production in Europe.

Do you share our vision for a green future?

We want to make greater contributions to the success of the green energy revolution by developing offshore wind farms. Our objective is to execute top-quality renewable energy projects, thereby consolidating our vision of a more environmentally-friendly future.

BayWa r.e. is fully aware of the maritime, societal, economic and environmental challenges that the development of offshore wind projects represents. We are committed to developing projects with and for the local partners and stakeholders, and in particular maritime sector and the local industrial network.
