About the role
As a Project Engineer Energy Storage (m/f/d), you will drive the technical direction of our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects across Europe. You will design and optimize system architectures, ensure full compliance with technical and safety standards, and guide projects from early concept to commissioning. Your expertise will help deliver reliable, efficient, and future-ready storage solutions that support the energy transition.
What will you do
Design and optimize BESS solutions, including system sizing, architecture, and component selection.
Ensure compliance with grid codes, electrical standards, safety regulations, and required certifications.
Develop and maintain design guidelines, technical specifications, and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures.
Lead the full lifecycle of our BESS systems, from early-stage concept design to commissioning.
Support supplier selection, technical evaluations, and contract negotiations, with a focus on technical annexes.
Collaborate closely with Revenue, Development, and Construction teams to evaluate technical and commercial feasibility.
Create and maintain all technical documentation related to BESS systems.
Define and ensure compliance with internal BayWa r.e. electrical standards, norms, and quality requirements.
What you’ll need to succeed
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field.
Experience in designing or engineering Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), power systems, or grid-connected energy assets.
Solid understanding of electrical standards, grid requirements, and safety regulations related to energy storage projects.
Ability to analyze and size technical systems, review engineering documentation, and develop structured design guidelines.
Experience collaborating with suppliers, reviewing technical specifications, and contributing to commercial discussions.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex technical challenges into practical solutions.
Familiarity with SCADA systems, protection concepts, or commissioning procedures is a plus.
Proficiency in MS Office, with strong analytical and documentation skills.
Fluency in business English; additional languages are an asset.
Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe.
