Battery energy storage systems (BESS)

Develop and construct energy storage projects with BayWa r.e.

Want to find out more about storage batteries? Find out here how storage batteries work, and what they can do for you!

Active internationally in the development, construction, and operation of battery energy storage systems, BayWa r.e. manages a portfolio of over 3 GW in projects currently under development.

Our expertise enables us to develop standalone systems that can be connected directly to the grid, as well as hybrid systems integrated with solar and/or wind farms.

The benefits of BESS

Energy storage is crucial for enhancing grid flexibility and advancing renewable energy development:

The balancing of the electrical grid by offsetting discrepancies between production and consumption

The security of electricity supply

The stabilisation of energy costs by damping fluctuations

A more efficient integration of renewable energy into the grid

Operation of a storage battery system

The criteria for site eligibility for a storage project

  • Between 0.5 and 3 hectares of available land

  • Flat terrain, located outside of flood-prone areas

  • Close to a grid connection point

  • Urban planning compatibility with an energy storage project

  • Preferably in an industrial zone, at a reasonable distance away from residential areas

Our projects in France

  • Location: Fragnes-La Loyère

  • Capacity: 11 MW

  • Surface: 000 m2 (size of the installation site)

Launched in the fall of 2024, the storage project was the subject of initial discussions with the Greater Chalon urban community. By the summer of 2025, the land had been secured, allowing studies to begin on the ZIP located in the middle of an industrial zone in the municipality of Fragnes-La Loyère.

  • Location: Fragnes-La Loyère
