The development of renewable energy projects is at the heart of our mission
Our development approach, which serves local communities
BayWa r.e. is specialised in the creation of renewable energy projects. Active in France since 2005, the company has already developed and constructed over 410 MW, including 32 wind and solar farms. Convinced that the energy transition requires the involvement of citizens and local communities, we develop projects in collaboration with and for these people.
We collaborate with all local stakeholders: residents, elected officials and local authorities, public-private partnerships, state representatives, farmers, and landowners, as part of an innovative development approach based on dialogue and exchange.
Value sharing begins from the development phase. Beyond consultation, our team of experts implement concrete actions tailored to each municipality, with the goal of ensuring that the entire community benefits from the economic, social, and environmental benefits of a renewable energy project. This amplifies the long-term benefits for local communities, accelerating their energy transition to address climate change and its consequences.
Value creation from the outset of project development
BayWa r.e. is proud to work with local communities, in projects that benefit all local stakeholders. The company aims to generate value and direct economic and environmental benefits, right from the development phase of a project, even before its construction.
Right from the development phase of its projects, BayWa r.e. proposes actions to the territory so that it benefits directly from the establishment of a renewable energy park:
Inform and consult throughout the life of a project
BayWa r.e. is committed, via the Amorce charter and our vision of project development, to co-constructing a project with good local acceptability. We offer a wide range of communication and consultation initiatives throughout the life of a project: regular newsletter, website, steering committee, public meetings, information forum, etc.

Our technical approach to project development
The development steps are:
Evaluating the project site based on technical, economic, regulatory, environmental, and financial criteria
Coordinating all studies
Managing environmental and connectivity authorisation requests with the grid operator, and rate requests with an energy provider
Monitoring and processing of files
Securing financing
Managing contracts with providers and contractors
Constructing and commissioning the farm
A qualified on-site development team
With a team of project managers spread across eight offices in France, BayWa r.e. develops its projects in close alignment with local areas and their specific characteristics. This proximity ensures a regular and consistent presence of the project manager and BayWa r.e. teams in the municipalities where the projects are being developed.
Project managers are supported by a team of internal experts from various fields to identify potential sites, engage and consult with local stakeholders, address environmental and biodiversity concerns, and ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
Partnership and acquisition
We also work in collaboration with local project developers and can take on projects at any stage of development. Our broad range of expertise enables us to be effective regardless of the type of partnership.
BayWa r.e.'s approach also allows local authorities and Mixed Electricity Syndicates to invest and participate in the equity of our projects during the development phase.
We are co-developing a ground-mounted solar project on 20 hectares with the municipality of Garein in the Landes, and we have additional projects in our portfolio in partnership with public-private partnerships and public entities.
